When you don’t know where to start in prayer, read Psalm 23 slowly. Pause at each image and let it give you words for what you need today.
Verses 1–3 | Ask for rest and direction
David describes God as a shepherd who leads his sheep to rest and guides them along right paths. Name one place where you feel hurried or unsure. Pray: Lord, show me where I need to slow down, and guide my next step.
Verse 4 | Pray honestly in the valley
Notice how David goes from speaking about God to speaking directly to Him. Try the same thing. Name what frightens you, then pray: Lord, stay near me as I walk through this. Help me take the next step with You.
Verses 5–6 | Remember the care you’ve received
The psalm ends with a table, a full cup, and the hope of dwelling with the Lord. Think of one way you’ve been cared for this week, even if it was small. Thank God for it by name.
Take one line from the psalm with you today. Write it down, then return to it the next time you have a quiet moment.
