Hi, I'm Ausrine, one of Lord's Paw Dog Training center's behaviorists. I was in the same situation a few years ago. I was afraid of the reaction of my two big dogs when I returned from the hospital. Dogs did not have any experience in communication with newborns.
My dogs were not happy having the baby around. They felt stressed by the noises, the smell of the baby, and his movements. Dogs avoided of touch of the baby. They appeared uncomfortable based on their body language. Some days dogs were hiding.
As a result of starting the new training, the situation has changed. Dogs have started to feel safe and calm around the baby, so all stress in my everyday routine just disappeared.
The techniques I was using helped me adjust the behavior of dogs, so I would like to share them with you.
