Acidic reconstitution water is sterile water mixed with a dilute amount of acetic acid (0.1% to 1.0%), designed to dissolve specific hydrophobic or basic peptides that fail to dissolve in neutral solutions.
What is Acidic Water vs. Standard BAC Water?
- Standard Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water): Sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. It has a slightly acidic to neutral pH (4.5 to 7.0) and supports multi-dose withdrawals over 28 days.
- Acidic Reconstitution Solution: Sterile water mixed with a mild acid (like acetic acid). It is tailored for compounds with an isoelectric point above 7 that require an acidic environment to stay in solution.
Key Characteristics
- No Preservative: Pure dilute acetic acid mixtures lack antimicrobial preservatives like benzyl alcohol.
- Shorter Lifespan: Solutions mixed with plain acidic water degrade faster and typically last only 3 to 7 days in refrigerated storage.
- Solubility Control: The lower pH alters the net charge of specific basic or stubborn compounds, preventing cloudiness or clumping upon reconstitution
