This Elements of Art: Color unit gives your students a full journey through color theory with 10 art lessons and 14 worksheets and drawing activities. Students explore the color wheel, warm and cool colors, tints and shades, complementary colors, neutrals and more. It is designed for Grades 4 to 9 and can be adapted for other ages.

Along the way, students make connections to art history with Roy Lichtenstein, draw still lifes, go on a color scavenger hunt, create pop art and draw contemporary bird art inspired by a single color palette. Everything is step-by-step and print-and-go, for classroom teachers, art specialists, substitute teachers and homeschool families.

Print the lesson plans and copy the worksheets for your students. Prep the suggested art materials: colored pencils, markers, crayons, pastels or watercolor paint. Use the informational pages to introduce each concept and demonstrate the technique to your class or group.

Assign the projects as guided lessons, sketchbook prompts or independent creative work. The unit can stand alone as a color theory unit or sit inside a larger Elements of Art curriculum.
