Flame On is a symmetrical, triangular shawl that is worked side to side. The natural shape of the brioche stitch pattern causes the shawl to increase and decrease in a straight line on one side while undulating on the other. While two sizes (small and large) are given for this pattern, it can easily be customized for whatever weight yarn you would like to knit it in.

Finished Size

56 (81)" wide and 26 (37)" tall on blocking board.

Yarn

Fiber Optic Yarns Kashmir (80% Superwash Merino Wool / 10% Ultrafine Cashmere / 10% Nylon) (4 oz, 420 yards, 3 ply) Fingering-weight (CYC #1): 1 (2) skein(s) in each of 2 colors.

Small shawl shown in Eye of Newt (MC) and Nightshade (CC).

Large shawl shown in Cathedral (MC) and Tuscon Gold (CC).

Needles

3.75 mm (US 5) circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge or appropriate for your yarn.

Cable needle, tapestry needle.

Gauge

Gauge is provided so you can achieve a similar-sized shawl to the one shown here, and will have enough yarn to complete the project. Each row is two passes: one MC, slide the needle, one CC. For the stitch count, the yarnover is considered part of the accompanying slipped stitch. The measurements are taken from a swatch of brioche rib after it has been blocked. To work the brioche rib, cast on 27 stitches and work the Middle section 19 times.
