The cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down, beginning with a raglan yoke. A motif panel is worked down both fronts and along the raglan seams on front and back. Sts are held for sleeves and knitting continues on the body, with wider motif panels extending from underarms to hem. Sleeves are worked in the rnd from the top down. The motif can be knit from charted or written instructions, whichever you prefer.
- To ensure an accurate fit, measure the child and choose a size that matches their chest rather than their age. Adjust length of body as needed, using the schematic.
- The pattern has a closer fit for smaller sizes, to avoid swamping tiny babies in excess fabric.
- The cardigan is designed to fall open below the buttons, so the ease at chest is measured with no overlap of the buttonbands, as shown in the photo above. If you choose to add more buttons on the front, you may wish to knit a larger size.
