Selene's Dozen (for cello quartet) — full score ONLY
Selene's Dozen — Greg Harradine
Full score ONLY
Cello Quartet (4 cellos). Listen on YouTube.
About the piece: I took for my compositional focus the number 12 since, at the time of writing, the CHP Cello Quartet (who commissioned the piece) had been together for 12 years. It begins with an opening section of 12 notes (3 groups of 4); these notes are drawn from the musical notes present within the names of the players. This motif of 12 notes occurs twice more, in altered forms, in later sections (there are 12 sections in total). The moon was a big inspiration too, since the cycles of the moon give us our 12 months to the year. This led me to Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, who lends her name to this piece.
