Rabia the Mystic

Rabi'a al-Adawiyya of Basra is the most celebrated woman saint in the history of Sufism, and Margaret Smith's 1928 study is still the fullest English account of her life and teaching. It's part biography, part translated sourcebook, drawing together Rabi'a's sayings alongside those of other early women mystics of Islam who rarely appear in translation at all, figures like Sha'wana, Nafisa, and Jahan-Ara.

It's the only title in the Hidden Lantern catalog centered on a woman mystic, and one of the few full-length English studies of its kind anywhere.
