11. Feathers
Feathers — Jaya Khoobsurat
Feathers reflects my awakening to the inner world and the discovery of a quiet place within — somewhere to retreat, breathe and find peace when the noise and negativity of the outer world become overwhelming. Fly little bird, fly away.
Originally released on Coloured Wings (1998), the song was also inspired by the Indian spiritual teacher Mata Amritanandamayi, known to many as Amma or the “Hugging Saint.” Witnessing her warmth and serenity, together with her extensive humanitarian work, inspired me to look again at life with greater hope and to embrace its beauty despite its complexities and challenges.
Feathers is ultimately a song about protecting the quiet space within ourselves while still finding the courage to open our hearts to life.
