The cajón, also known as the Peruvian cajón or flamenco cajón depending on its manufacturing approach, is a musical instrument of Peruvian origin, with documented evidence of its existence in Peru since the mid-19th century.

The instrument is usually constructed with wooden planks for the sides, top, and bottom, and a plywood plate for the striking surface.In Peru, cajons were made of tornillo, cedar, or mahogany wood.
