The videos focus on three key areas of the maths curriculum:

Place Value & Number

Written Methods ➕➖✖️➗

Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

BONUS: Two free assessment quizzes for Year 5 and Year 6 with answers and corresponding video numbers so you know exactly what your child needs help with and can get them started quickly on the relevant videos. Plus a reward chart to increase motivation!

Do you find it difficult to help your child with maths homework without knowing the current maths methods taught in school?

Do you try to help your child with maths but they tell you that’s not how they do it in school?!

Does your child come home from school upset or anxious because they didn't understand the maths lesson that day but you feel as though you can't help them?

Are you worried about your child's upcoming maths SATS and ensuring they're confident for maths at secondary school but don't know where to start?

Do you feel as if you don't know exactly which maths methods your child needs help with?

These prerecorded maths method tutoring videos give quick, easy access to current methods. Each video starts with a straight forward explanation of the method. This is followed by optional questions to pause and try. Then, press play to be shown how to get to the answers if more support is needed.

Different ways to use the videos:

  • Pinpoint tricky areas: Quickly assess your child using the two quizzes (Year 5 or 6) with answers. This will give you a list of all the methods your child needs help with and the corresponding video number for each method.

  • Use ad hoc to help support homework or after a tricky maths lesson: Go straight to the method you need and the first few minutes of each video give you a method demonstration.

  • Use it as an affordable, flexible tutoring session that fits around busy schedules - log in on any device and your child can watch while you're cooking dinner, waiting in the car or when there's a gap between after school activities - children can watch independently or you can listen in too if you'd like to know the current methods!

  • If your child's school provides information on what's being taught each week, you could even use them to give your child a head start, watching the upcoming method videos the week before to make maths lessons a little easier.

  • Go through the videos in order or pick and choose as needed!

  • The videos are also great for the summer holidays to avoid the 'Summer Slide', when children slide backwards because they're not having regular maths lessons. Most secondary schools assess children when they arrive and the difference between their SATS score and their initial Year 7 assessment can be substantially different.

These videos will help to boost confidence and secure subject knowledge for SATS and starting secondary school. This isn’t just about passing SATS - these methods will be needed for Year 7 and beyond to build upon.

These are all up to date methods in line with the England National Curriculum - taught by a qualified and experienced primary teacher and tutor.

FAQS

How do I cancel the monthly subscription?

When you cancel your monthly subscription, it will end immediately so please ensure you no longer require access to the videos.

Click here for Payhip's instructions on how to cancel your subscription.

Are these videos suitable for a child who is very behind in Year 5 or Year 6?

These videos are designed for children who are slightly below expected levels or at the expected level but require some support with the methods. The videos are not aimed at children who are years behind expected levels; I would advise private 1:1 tutoring for children in this instance, which I offer online via Skype. My email is hello@blossomandsoar.co.uk if you would like to discuss some extra support for your child.

Do I have to sit with my child during the videos?

The videos can be watched independently by children or you can watch with your child if you want to know the methods yourself. You may also want to watch the videos independently to explore the methods your child is learning in school or to help your child with homework.

How can I increase motivation with the reward chart?

If motivation is a struggle, use the printable reward chart to help (or save/take a screen shot and use it on a tablet or phone). Agree a reward for completing 10 videos before your child starts and they can tick off each video as they complete it. The reward doesn’t have to cost a thing or it can be something you’ve already got planned. Then repeat for the next ten videos.

Can I email for extra support if my child doesn’t understand a method?

I’m afraid, these are solely online videos with no additional email support. This is to keep the cost reasonable. However, I do offer 1:1 Skype online tutoring. My email is hello@blossomandsoar.co.uk if you would like to discuss some extra support for your child.

How does it work with videos being aimed at Year 5 and Year 6 – which videos do they watch?

I wanted to give as much value for money as possible so these videos cover Year 5 and Year 6 in the areas stated on the video title in line with the England National Curriculum.

I’ve marked each video with guidance on which year group it is suitable for. However, this may vary depending on the maths group your child is in and whether they are in a mixed Year 5/6 class, which may mean they are already covering Year 6 methods in Year 5.

If your child is in Year 5, it’s best to focus on the Year 5 videos. However, if your Year 5 child has been taught some Year 6 methods in a mixed year class or if they are keen for a challenge, they could try the Year 6 videos after viewing the Year 5 videos for each method.

If your child is in Year 6, I would recommend watching all the videos for each method as when there is a Year 5 level for a method, it will really help them to recap this before moving onto the Year 6 level of the method.

Is this suitable for a Year 7 child to catch up?

Yes definitely. If your child is in Year 7 but is not confident or working at Year 5/6 level, this would be a great catch-up and recap of the Year 5 and Year 6 methods, which they will go back over in Year 7. If your child is in Year 7, I would recommend watching all the videos for each method as when there is a Year 5 level for a method, it will really help them to revisit this before moving onto the Year 6 level of the method.
