Do you find it difficult to help your child with maths homework without knowing the current maths methods taught in school?

These maths method videos give you quick, easy access to current methods with straight forward explanations using example questions, which you can use in the following ways:

• Quickly assess your Year 6 child using the two quizzes with answers. This will give you a list of all the methods your child needs help with and the corresponding video number for each method.

• Either quickly watch the beginning of the relevant video to understand the method so that you can help your child, watch the video together or your child can watch independently.

•  Within each video after the method is shown, there is the option to pause the video to try some questions independently before playing the video to see a full explanation of how to use the method to reach the answers.

Is this a one off cost?

Yes this is a one off cost for full access to the video bundle until July 30th 2024.

Are these videos suitable for a child who is very behind in Year 5 or Year 6?

These videos are designed for children who are slightly below expected levels or at the expected level but require some support with the methods. The videos are not aimed at children who are years behind expected levels; I would advise private 1:1 tutoring for children in this instance, which I offer online via Skype. Do I have to sit with my child during the videos?

The videos can be watched independently by children or you can watch with your child if you want to know the methods yourself. You may also want to watch the videos independently to explore the methods your child is learning in school or to help your child with homework.

Where should I start?

There are a few ways you can approach the videos.

You could watch the videos in order to go through each section. I have planned the videos in a very careful order so skills are built upon in a natural progression if the videos are viewed in order.

The videos can also be used in an ad-hoc way to help when your child is struggling with a specific method taught in school that day or with a homework assignment based on a specific method.

Thirdly, if your child is in Year 6 (or Year 7 catch up), you can use the assessments which are in the welcome section. The assessments cover the key areas of maths - place value, number properties, written methods and fractions/decimals/percentages. These are all the methods needed for the SATS arithmetic paper and will also greatly help with the SATS reasoning papers. Once your child has completed the assessments, you can mark them using the answers. Each answer has the corresponding video number next to it so you know exactly which methods your child finds tricky and they can work through those videos to help them understand the methods.

Can I email for extra support if my child doesn’t understand a method?

I’m afraid, these are solely online videos with no additional email support. This is to keep the cost reasonable. However, I do offer 1:1 Skype online tutoring. My email is hello@blossomandsoar.co.uk if you would like to discuss some extra support for your child.

How does it work with videos being aimed at Year 5 and Year 6 – which videos do they watch?

I wanted to give as much value for money as possible so these videos cover Year 5 and Year 6 in the areas stated on the video title in line with the England National Curriculum.

I’ve marked each video with guidance on which year group it is suitable for. However, this may vary depending on the maths group your child is in and whether they are in a mixed Year 5/6 class, which may mean they are already covering Year 6 methods in Year 5.

If your child is in Year 5, it’s best to focus on the Year 5 videos. However, if your Year 5 child has been taught some Year 6 methods in a mixed year class or if they are keen for a challenge, they could try the Year 6 videos after viewing the Year 5 videos for each method.

If your child is in Year 6, I would recommend watching all the videos for each method as when there is a Year 5 level for a method, it will really help them to recap this before moving onto the Year 6 level of the method.

If your child watched the videos in Year 5 and is now in Year 6, I would also recommend re-watching the Year 5 videos for each method in Year 6 before progressing onto the Year 6 version of the method.

Is this suitable for a Year 7 child to catch up?

Yes definitely. If your child is in Year 7 but is not confident or working at Year 5/6 level, this would be a great catch-up and recap of the Year 5 and Year 6 methods, which they will go back over in Year 7. If your child is in Year 7, I would recommend watching all the videos for each method as when there is a Year 5 level for a method, it will really help them to revisit this before moving onto the Year 6 level of the method.
