Dark Romance is the only subgenre that shares Google Trends' top interest tier with Romance itself: 53.38 against the anchor query, more than double the next niche (Romantasy, 18.49). Its median ebook price fell from $8.99 to $4.99 in six months without a single book getting cheaper, because Big Five slots on its top-100 collapsed from 16 to 2 while identified self-published slots grew from 5 to 43.
