A fully editable resource. Designed for students who are at at least Year 6 level.
Introduction: The aim of this resource is to improve student knowledge and understanding of our main New Zealand cities/towns.
This resource features 10 main New Zealand towns.
These are: Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Dunedin, Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, Nelson, Queenstown and Whangarei.
Each sheet focuses on a New Zealand place in both English and Maori and will include:
1. A Google Mapping task
2. A physical mapping location task
3. A task identifying the surrounding regional/smaller towns
4. Research find outs about the main place
5. Research cloze based on early Maori history of the place
6. Identifying some of the tourist attractions on offer
7. Opportunities for extension activities to develop a deeper understanding of the history of the place, including exploring possible Maori legends from the wider area.
8. Research find outs to locate the Maori name of significant mountains (maunga)and rivers (awa);
Includes a Bonus template for each place listing some famous people born in that place and providing a panel to sketch the person and write some key facts.
