A French vacation turns to mystery and intrigue when "les gargouilles" on cathedrals disappear by the hundreds

Young Halley Lamson, on a family vacation in France, runs into a man who seems to know her, but she is sure she has never seen him before. She then receives a threatening letter, slid under the door of her hotel room. A policeman on his night beat in the center of Paris is killed by a falling object, but his unknown killer remains at large. And the newspapers and networks are reporting that all around Europe gargoyles are disappearing from their cathedrals. The authorities are at a loss as to who the culprits could be.

Somehow, Halley begins to believe, these events are all related. But how? What follows is a whirlwind of suspense and intrigue, where Halley meets a strange little man who seems to have the spiritual key to the hidden rebus. But as she and her family are separated and scattered across France she must solve the mystery before it is too late, for her family and perhaps for the world.
