QUARTERLY FOOD POLICY SCAN Q2 2025
The Quarterly Food Policy Scan – Global Updates, Local Relevance, is a quarterly monitoring report, developed by HealthyPath, intended to highlight key developments at the nexus of nutrition, food, and sustainability, spotlighting global updates and regional progress in the Gulf.
It is designed to help Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) policymakers and food industry leaders stay ahead of these shifts, providing an up-to-date, evidence-based overview of global and regional policy movements and strategic implications. Each quarter, we analyze key developments around the world, highlighting debates, and policies that may carry implications for the region.
The goal is to offer clear, timely insights that support informed decision-making, whether for public health planning, regulatory alignment, or business strategy. Our quarterly report focuses on two key areas:
- Nutrition Policy: We delve into policies shaping the food environment, including updates on national nutrition strategies, food reformulation policies, marketing to children, labelling debates, school canteen guidelines, debates on ultra-processed foods (UPFs), and fiscal policy shifts.
- Food Security: We provide a snapshot of how policy, innovation, and evidence are converging to ensure food security in the GCC. It explores the impact of food insecurity on malnutrition and highlights efforts to boost local food production. Special focus is given to alternative proteins given their intersection with nutrition and sustainability, and their role in advancing food security.
Each section summarizes what’s happening globally, but always brings the focus back to one central question: What does this mean for the GCC?
We aim to strengthen public health, enable responsible industry growth, and ensure long-term food system resilience in an increasingly complex global environment.
