3 Cool Cats

“3 Cool Cats” is the vibrant new album from Tasmanian electro-acoustic folk/rock duo The Sign, now joined by a drummer to expand their signature sound. Following on from their acclaimed release Singles, this record brings a fresh energy and depth while staying true to what makes The Sign so distinct.

Featuring Jo Volta on 12-string acoustic guitar and vocals, and Paul Volta on 6-string acoustic guitar and vocals, 3 Cool Cats delivers the band’s trademark beautifully tight and intricate harmonies, led by Jo’s powerful, emotive vocals and perfectly complemented by Paul’s rich tone and seamless harmonization. The addition of drums gives the songs a new rhythmic drive and dynamic lift, enhancing the duo’s already full and captivating sound.

Written with craft and heart by Jo, and recorded and produced by Paul, 3 Cool Cats is performed entirely in open C tuning and guitars tuned to 432 kHz, creating a warm, resonant, and immersive listening experience. Despite its acoustic foundation, the album boasts a huge, layered sound that spans genres—from folk to grunge, blues to rock—each track infused with The Sign’s unmistakable artistry and emotion.

Nearly a year in the making—from writing and arranging to recording, mixing, and mastering—3 Cool Cats was beautifully mastered by award-winning engineer/producer Chris Thompson, ensuring every harmony, beat, and guitar shimmer stands out.
