This Butterfly Grid Drawing Art Lesson teaches students the classic grid method to accurately reproduce a butterfly image. Breaking a detailed picture into small squares helps students observe shapes, proportions and details closely, and builds real confidence in their drawing.

Students use a reference photograph and a grid template to copy the butterfly one square at a time. Once the image is transferred, they erase the grid lines and finish the artwork with color and shading. It suits spring art units, butterfly themed projects and observational drawing practice.
