PRIESTHOOD – The Shadow Could Not Make Them Perfect by Bro H

Verse 1 When the family had become a nation, One patriarch could serve them all no more. Yahweh took the tribe of Levi And appointed Aaron at the sanctuary door. They washed him with water, anointed him with oil, And offered blood to cover his own sin. For every mortal priest required an offering Before he could make intercession for his kin. Chorus The blood of bulls and goats Could never take our sins away. The priest stood year after year; The debt and memory remained. If perfection came through Levi, Why must another Priest arise? The shadow served its appointed time— Then the Substance gave His life. Verse 2 The prophet stood facing toward the people, Bringing from God the word they had to hear. The priest stood with his face toward the altar, His face toward God, approaching Him in fear. The king sat separately upon the throne; God gave each office boundaries of its own. Saul crossed the line; his kingdom passed away. Uzziah burned the incense and was leprous from that day. Chorus The blood of bulls and goats Could never take our sins away. The priest stood year after year; The debt and memory remained. If perfection came through Levi, Why must another Priest arise? The shadow served its appointed time— Then the Substance gave His life. Verse 3 They were many priests because death stopped them; One man died, and another took his place. The Day of Atonement came each year again, With another veil, another altar, blood, and basin. The Holy Spirit showed by this repeated service That the way into perfection was not clear. For sacrifices constantly remembered sin; What was covered once returned another year. Verse 4 There was Phinehas who stood and stopped the plague, Jehoiada who preserved the royal seed, Hilkiah found the Book and called the nation Back to Yahweh’s covenant and His decrees. But Eli’s sons polluted every offering; Men purchased holy office from a pagan throne. Herod slaughtered Levi’s rightful servants And filled the priesthood with appointees of his own. Chorus The blood of bulls and goats Could never take our sins away. The priest stood year after year; The debt and memory remained. If perfection came through Levi, Why must another Priest arise? The shadow served its appointed time— Then the Substance gave His life. Verse 5 Levi saw seven Jubilees unfold— Honor turned to sorrow, pain, and darkest night. Then he saw a new Priest rise beneath an opened heaven, With the Spirit resting on Him in the water and the Light. Daniel said He would make sacrifice and offering cease; Everlasting righteousness would come when sin was reconciled. At the Jordan, John prepared the final offering; At Calvary, the Levitical season was closed. Final Chorus The blood of bulls and goats Could never take our sins away. The priest stood year after year; The debt and memory remained. If perfection came through Levi, Why must another Priest arise? The shadow served its appointed time— Then the Substance gave His life.
