Slipping Up Toque

When developing the patterns for the Slipping Up vest and the Slipping Down pullover, I realised that the dense and colourful stitch pattern would lend itself well to a knit hat. I didn’t have the time to develop the toque before the snow melted last winter, but wanted to make sure that I got back to the idea as soon as I could.

The Slipping Up Toque is knit in five colours of sock yarn. It features a textured slip stitch pattern that offers a nice dense, warm fabric for winter. It is also a great opportunity to use up that leftover sock yarn stash!

Sizing

Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5)

Child 3-10 (Teenager, Adult Woman, Adult Man, Adult Man XL)

It is recommended that you use head measurement to determine size rather than relying on the above approximations.

Finished Measurements (Circumference)

17.25 (18.25, 19.5, 20.5, 21.75) inches, OR

43 (45.5, 48.5, 51.5, 54.5) cm

Recommended Ease: Negative 1-3” (2.5-7.5 cm)

The garment is shown in Size 4 with 2.5” (6.5 cm) negative ease.

Gauge

On US Size 4 (3.5 mm) needles, after blocking:

28 sts/ 56 rows in 4” (10 cm) in Slip Stitch pattern in the Round

Yarn

Madelinetosh Tosh Sock, 100% Superwash Merino wool, fingering weight, 395 yards (361 meters) per skein, OR

Any fingering weight yarn with similar properties that knits up to gauge.

Main Colour (MC) Yarn

92 (106, 115, 130, 138) yards, OR

85 (97, 106, 119, 127) meters.

Contrast Colours C1, C2, C3, & C4

36 (41, 45, 50, 53) yards, OR

33 (38, 42, 46, 49) meters in each contrast yarn.
