What is the Cuticle? Why Treat it?
The cuticle is the outermost layer of each hair strand — a protective shield made up of overlapping, scale-like cells (similar to roof shingles or fish scales) that wrap around the inner cortex of the hair. These scales can lie flat and smooth or lift and roughen depending on the hair's health, processing, and treatment. Cuticle reduction helps to remove damaged cuticle and seal the remaining cuticle to reduce tangling.
