Over the last months, I’ve been looking after the stray kittens that live at the building next to mine. I’ve been feeding them daily and, together with CopsCats, the charity I volunteer for, I managed to have them all neutered, including one of the mother cats.

Now winter’s here, the kittens are catching cat flu one after the other. One almost lost his eye around Christmas (he now lives with me and my other three cats), one disappeared before I was able to catch him, another was just treated last week, the fourth is currently in my office, where I can keep an eye on him, and the other five kittens are all sneezing.

I’ve started buying high quality food to help boost the entire colony’s immune system and contributing to the vet visits and medications, and I want to keep doing that, but it costs a lot of money. Like, a lot.
