Emotion Cards
🌈 Emotion Cards — Feel It, Name It, Choose What Helps
Sometimes knowing how you feel is hard. Finding the words to tell someone can be even harder. 💗
These printable Emotion Cards were created to give children a simple, visual way to communicate their emotions — while also giving them 3 practical strategies they can try when they need a little support.
And this resource is extra special to me… 🥹
💡 The idea came from my autistic + ADHD son.
He wanted to create something that could help other children show someone how they’re feeling and what might help, especially during moments when talking feels difficult.
💗 What’s included?
The set includes 12 colourful emotion cards, covering:
Happy • Calm • Excited • Proud • Sad • Angry • Worried • Frustrated • Overwhelmed • Lonely • Tired • Anxious
Every card includes:
✨ A clear visual representation of the emotion
✨ The emotion written in easy-to-recognise language
✨ 3 simple, child-friendly strategies to try
✨ Bright, calming visuals designed to be easy to use and understand
✂️ Print • Cut • Keep Close
Print and cut out the cards, then keep them somewhere children can easily access them.
They could be kept on a lanyard, attached to a keyring, placed in a calm corner, kept on a desk or added to a regulation toolkit.
A child can then point to or choose a card to communicate:
“This is how I feel.”
and
“This is something that might help me.”
This can be particularly useful when emotions are big and finding the right words is difficult.
🏡 Perfect for…
Parents, teachers, teaching assistants, SEN/SEND settings, support workers, calm corners, regulation spaces and anyone supporting children with emotional communication.
Feel it. 💗 Name it. 💗 Choose what helps.
Different minds can create brilliant ideas — and sometimes the smallest idea can make a very big difference. 🌈
