Size 6 [4.0 mm] 16" [40 cm] circular needle. 

Size 7 [4.5 mm] 16" [40 cm] circular needle and One set of double-point needles. 

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Gauge (after blocking)

23 sts and 27.5 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Knit1 x Purl1 Ribbing Stitch (slightly stretched) using Size 6 [4 mm] or the smaller needles

17.5 sts and 37.5 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Kiku stitch using Size 7 [4.5 mm] or the larger needles

To save time, take time to check the gauge. 

 

Pattern Notes

This is a beret worked in the round from the brim to the top of the hat, starting on circular needles and changing to double-point needles. There are two different hat sizes and each size has three brim sizes.
