The Village Idiot

She joined the group to buy a lamp. She found her own face turned into a cruel joke.

Wanda Marsh expects ordinary exchanges in her neighborhood’s buy-sell-trade group: secondhand furniture, useful bargains, and people helping things find new homes.

Then someone alters her photograph with artificial intelligence and posts it for laughs. Strangers join in, mocking her appearance and treating her humiliation as entertainment.

Wanda knows the familiar temptation to answer every insult, correct every assumption, and keep explaining until someone understands. She also knows what those arguments have already cost her.

Drawing on her faith and hard-earned experience, she must decide how to protect her dignity without giving a cruel audience control of her day.

The Village Idiot by Mia Bills is compelling fiction with Christian themes about online bullying, body shaming, forgiveness, and learning when to stop handing strangers the microphone.

Can Wanda reclaim her peace without waiting for the crowd to admit it was wrong?
