It’s been far too long since we’ve had a good ol’ dragon scarf mystery knit a long, so we’re bringing out Origins!
Origins has two versions - Cowl and Scarf. The Cowl version will use 800 yards of yarn - 400 MC and 400 CC, while the Fingering version will use 1600 yards - 800 MC and 800 CC.
This design is very different from some of my previous patterns. Be prepared for a lot of patterning. I won’t spoil the surprise, but it’s not Celtic knots ;) This MKAL will be released over 10 weeks with clues being released every other week.
Special notes -
Before we get into the details - This pattern can be knit in either double knitting or stranded colorwork in the round (or flat, if you prefer), instructions for both are included in the pattern.
Equipment -
For either Double Knit or Colorwork in the Round -
Scarf - 800 yards of Main Color and 800 yards of Contrasting Color (1600 yards total)
Cowl - 400 yards of Main Color and 400 yards of Contrasting Color (800 yards total)
Stitch markers
16” US 2 - 2.75 mm needles - or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle
Colors -
Some good color combos to try out include -
• Red and Black
• Blue and Gold
• Gold and Black
• Silver and Blue
• Green and Gold
• Black and White
• White and Pine
Remember that you can always test if your colors have enough contrast by taking a photo of the colors side by side and using a filter to turn it into a black and white photo.
Swatching -
Gauge is not vital to this project, so swatching is not necessary. If, however, you want to do a test swatch there are two sets of swatching patterns I have up for free – Four Elements Baby Dragons 1 and 2. Total yardage does not account for swatching.
