This Christmas Red Fox Art Project has students explore collage, pattern and composition while creating a cozy, festive fox. It fits classroom art lessons, holiday art or a winter woodland theme.

Students follow a guided drawing tutorial, then use collage techniques to layer textures and patterns for a rich, mixed-media effect. It is a low-prep lesson for art teachers, classroom teachers and homeschool parents, and it helps students build confidence in drawing while trying new techniques in the lead-up to the holidays.

WHAT'S INCLUDED (30 PAGES, NON-EDITABLE)

  • About the Resource with learning objectives, materials and suggested uses
  • Lesson plan (2 pages) with materials, learning outcomes, instructional goals and Teacher Does / Student Does steps

HOW TO USE IT

Look over the lesson plan and gather your materials in advance: pencil, eraser, step-by-step draw handouts (30 copies), art rubrics (30 copies), 2 pieces of white paper per student, 1 red paper and 1 green paper per student, and oil pastels. Photocopy the student handouts, and consider making a sample yourself so you are ready to help students.

Print the poster sample in color and show it as your hook. Then project the step-by-step pages, show them under a document camera, or use them as your guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a visual and a text description.
