A comprehensive dataset of Chinese road vehicle type approvals, sourced directly from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) 道路机动车辆生产企业及产品 public announcement system. This is the official Chinese government registry of every vehicle model legally approved for manufacture and sale in China.

What's included

227,000+ vehicle records in CSV format, covering passenger cars, commercial vehicles, electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, buses, trucks, motorcycles and special-purpose vehicles from hundreds of manufacturers — both domestic Chinese brands and international joint ventures (Toyota, Volkswagen, BMW, Tesla, GM, Ford and more).

Each record contains the following fields:

Model — Gonggao model code (e.g. SGM7102JBA1) — the official Chinese type approval identifier

Make — Manufacturer name (Chinese)

Brand — Brand/marque name (Chinese, e.g. 别克(BUICK)牌)

Type — Vehicle category (Chinese, e.g. 纯电动轿车 = Pure Electric Sedan)

EnglishMake — Manufacturer name in English (AI-resolved)

EnglishModel — Model name in English (AI-resolved, e.g. Model Y, Camry, 3 Series)

EnglishConfidence — Confidence level of English translation: high / medium / low

CompanyName — Full legal name of the manufacturing entity

EnterpriseAddress — Factory and production address

VehicleLength — Overall length (mm)

VehicleWidth — Overall width (mm)

VehicleHeight — Overall height (mm)

Wheelbase — Wheelbase (mm)

KerbWeight — Kerb weight (kg)

TotalMass — Gross vehicle weight (kg)

MaxSpeed — Maximum speed (km/h)

PassengerCapacity — Approved seating capacity

FuelType — Fuel type (e.g. 汽油 = Gasoline, 纯电动 = Electric)

IdentificationCode — VIN prefix(es) for vehicle identification

GonggaoError — Populated where data could not be retrieved from MIIT

VIN prefix data

The IdentificationCode field contains the official VIN prefix(es) for each approved model — the manufacturer-assigned characters that identify a specific vehicle variant within the global VIN standard. These can be used to build a Chinese VIN decoder: match the first 8–11 characters of any Chinese VIN against these prefixes to identify the vehicle's make, model, fuel type, dimensions and production details.

Data source and freshness

Compiled from the MIIT public announcement system (service.miit-eidc.org.cn) covering all active type approvals across batches up to the current catalogue. English make/model fields were resolved using AI and should be treated as indicative for lower-confidence records — the underlying Chinese fields are authoritative.

Format

Single CSV file, UTF-8 encoded. Compatible with Excel, Google Sheets, Python (pandas), R, SQL Server, MySQL and any standard data tool.
