The Structure of Semiotic Equalities
Abstract:
Instead of reference, universal terms can be understood through a process of semantic instruction, which can be modeled in pseudocode as functions. Semantic functions are considered either eloquent or ineloquent depending on their internal properties, such as readability and adaptability. This work aims to provide eloquent functions for understanding semiotic theory in terms of equality and inequality. Within the triadic structure of the sign, elements may be considered equal if they have a directness of correspondence between each other, or unequal if they do not. A typology of signs is derived from the possible interplay of equality and inequality within the sign, concluding in a semiotic cube presenting a visual display of all possible signs within the structure argued for.
