Here's a tune believed to be composed by the great Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan. I first learned this on guitar from Alan Colfer, one of my instructors at the University of Limerick. After a bit of reharmonizing and rearranging I discovered how enjoyable it is to play on the mandolin.

Sheet music includes standard notation (treble clef) and mandolin tablature.

Mandola tabs?

I don't have a mandola but love the sound and hope to obtain one. I understand the tuning is cgda. Having downloaded 5 or 6 of your tunes Im a bit confused on how to translate the tab to mandola. Or, do i just read the music and go from there forgetting the tabs. I do read music.

Another great O’Carolan tune from Colin

I like the way Colin incorporates variations on the tune and his use of chords and double stops. His videos make it easy to see how he is fingering a particular passage. His videos and transcripts are a valuable tool in learning some very nice music.

The only thing I dislike is that I don’t have enough time to learn all of the wonderful tunes that Colin posts!
