In this video guide we take you on a journey along the dramatic and scenic coastline of Cornwall. We investigate the history, geology and culture of this popular holiday destination as well as visiting some fascinating places along our route.
In the first video we focus on South Cornwall, starting our journey by the Fal estuary. We continue on to the picturesque Helford river, before reaching the dramatic coastline of the Lizard peninsula. This area is not only known for its beautiful beaches but also its place in the history of radio communications.
In the second video we travel to West Cornwall, where we visit both the southern and northern coasts. At Portcurno, carved into its granite cliffs is the famous open-air Minack Theatre. Crossing over to the north coast, we arrive in St. Ives. The town has been attracting artists for decades who come to capture the area’s natural beauty, and light.
Inland near Camborne is Heartlands, part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage site. Tin and copper have been mined here since the Bronze Age. In its dramatic cliff top setting at St Just, Levant Mine offers a window on a world where men and women toiled to extract the riches of the earth from veins of ore, beneath crashing waves.
In the third video we delve into the legend of King Arthur, who is associated with Tintagel on the north coast of Cornwall. We go on to visit Bodmin Moor before exploring the interesting villages of Boscastle, Port Isaac, Polzeath and Padstow.
