“Will you invite us in for a drink?” Zander asked as they got nearer to the entrance.

“No. I don’t think that would be sensible right now. Look… It’s not that I don’t want to see you,” Jamie began.

“We know. You don’t have to explain,” Devon said.

“I think I do,” Jamie said. He wanted to get this off his chest, no matter how foolish he would seem. “I want you too much. Both of you. But I can’t accept a short-term deal and then just walk out the door as if nothing has happened.”

“We can give you more than just a few nights,” Zander said hoarsely.

“You don’t have to. I will be better off without any of you in my life. Besides, you’re already married. I don’t want to get involved in something like that.”

“Maybe we should just adopt him,” Devon said.

“Shut up,” Jamie said and laughed despite his attempts to remain calm.

“Or maybe we should find a country where we can all get married,” Zander suggested.

“Go home. I’ll see you in the morning,” Jamie said, turning toward his hotel. He couldn’t bear any more temptation, or he would never be able to leave.

“Jamie?”

Jamie turned around, not quite sure which one of them had spoken. At the same time, he was swept into Devon’s arms and kissed thoroughly. As soon as he was released, Zander grabbed him and kissed him too.

“If you ever change your mind,” Zander said hoarsely. “You know where to find us.”

“I won’t. I can’t.” Jamie pulled away, giving them a look of sorrow for what could never be. “Goodbye,” he croaked before heading toward his empty bed. 

He hoped none of them had seen the tears that had started to gather in his eyes.

Grown men didn’t cry, he reminded himself. 

What utter nonsense. Of course, they did. Particularly when it felt like his heart had been ripped from his chest and he was bleeding out in front of their feet. If only he had been brave enough to grab what he wanted without any consideration for the future. If only.
