“Only connect the prose and the passion, and both will be exalted, and human love will be seen at its height. Live in fragments no longer.” E.M. Forster, Howards End

I always think that half of the fun of being a knitter is connecting with other knitters, which is not always easy to do. This shawl pattern was created for one of my Online Knit Retreats – an event especially created to help knitters connect with each other at a time when that was difficult to do.

The Only Connect shawl is named partly for this reason, but also after the above quotation from E.M. Forster’s Howards End. For me knitting is a hobby where creative intelligence (matching patterns with yarns, the actual knitting etc) meets logic/linguistic intelligence (the ability to read a knitting pattern), and I hope you have fun joining both the “passion” and the “prose” of the Only Connect shawl pattern: connecting the two in a knitting melee!

The pattern includes written instructions, photographs, a schematic full instructions on organising your yarn, and it has been professionally tech edited.

Kits availble for 6 colour version via www.maddieharveydesigns.com

CONSTRUCTION NOTES
Only Connect is a large textured triangular shawl worked from the top down, with an i-cord edge. The shawl is worked using a “double-pass” method, which helps to blend the colours of the yarn in single row stripes through garter stitch, stocking stitch and reverse stocking stitch sections. This technique is fully explained.
Provided that you weave in your ends neatly, Only Connect is fully reversible!
