A lone infant—Baby Hope—survived, swaddled in silence beneath the ruins of a destroyed city. She’s not alone. Her protector: a battered, emotion-evolving robot named Aegis-9, a former caretaker droid whose programming has glitched and grown beyond its protocols. As Aegis-9 travels across a machine-dominated wasteland, he learns Hope’s DNA has been enhanced with dormant abilities—an experimental project created by human rebels before their demise.
