There’s nothing cozier than cables, and what’s better than playing with them on a geometric, wear with anything hat. The Dulwich sample was knit out of a locally grown wool found at a festival, and the design is a great way to use similarly special skeins of yarn that are available to you.

SIZE
Child: 44.5cm (17 ½“) circumference, fits head circumference 46–51cm (18–21 ¾”); 18.5cm (7 ¼“) or 21.5cm (8 ½”) long
Adult Small: 49cm (19 ¼”) circumference, fits head circumference 50.5–55.5cm (20–23 ½“); 21cm (8 ¼”) or 24cm (9 ½“) long
Adult Large: 53.5cm (21”) circumference, fits head circumference 55–60cm (21 ¾ –25 ¼”); 23cm (9”) or 26cm (10 ¼“) long

YARN
100g sport or light DK weight yarn. Sample used Karoa Fibres M7 (100% wool; approximately 300m {328yds}/100g), 1 skein in an unnamed colourway. Possible substitute yarns include The Fibre Co. Arranmore Light and Lana Rara rare swiss wool.

If you are using a sport weight for this hat, lofty woolen spun yarns work best in the required gauge. If you are using a smooth worsted spun yarn, aim for something that is closer to a DK weight.

Sample used approximately 45g (135m {148yds}) for Large Size hat, fitted version, and 16g (48m {52yds}) for the pom pom. Please note that the yardage requirements will vary depending on the hat circumference, length, and any differences in gauge.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
4.5mm (US 7), at least 100cm (40”) length circular needle, double-pointed needles or short 40cm (16”) circular needle, or size to obtain gauge
Cable needle
Stitch marker/progress keeper (optional)
Tapestry needle
Tape measure
Scissors
Small 6.5cm (2 ½“) diameter pom pom maker (optional)

Please note that pom poms may present a choking hazard for children aged 3 years and under. If you make the hat with pom poms, you may need to include a choking hazard warning label to that effect on the finished product.

GAUGE
18 stitches x 26 rounds = 10cm (4”) in reverse stockinette stitch, knit in the round and relaxed after blocking.

Reverse stockinette stitch = purl every round.

27 stitches x 32 rounds = 10cm (4”) in Cable Chart, knit in the round and relaxed after blocking.

NOTE
You have the option of making either a hat that will sit fitted around the crown of the head, or one with a slouchy fit. If desired, you also have the option of working a longer brim than specified (note that this will affect your final measurements and yardage requirements).
