Past Tense -ED Endings · B1+/B2 · Pronunciation | No-Prep ESL Pronunciation Lesson
A ready-to-teach B1+/B2 pronunciation lesson on the three sounds of regular past tense -ed endings: /t/, /d/ and /ɪd/.
Students sort verbs by ear in a quick board warm-up, then learn one golden rule: it's about the final sound of the base verb, not the spelling. Each sound gets its own rule slide with phonemic transcriptions, and the throat test and two mnemonics give students a way to check themselves. They sort verbs, complete and mark sentences, find the odd one out, read a short colour-coded story aloud and finish by telling a partner about their weekend while the partner notes every -ed verb they hear.
What's inside (one PDF):
- 15 colourful slides to project, with answer keys straight after each exercise
- Golden rule, three rule slides with IPA, memory tricks and a phrase bank of common regular verbs
- Three exercises: sort the verbs, complete and mark the sound, odd one out plus a read-aloud story
- A pair production task and a one-slide summary
Level: B1+ / B2 · Time: 45–60 minutes · Prep: none. Project and teach; you model the sounds yourself, so no audio is needed.
Please note: this is a slides-only lesson, without a separate printable worksheet. It is also part of the Pronunciation Toolkit bundle of 16 lessons.
