About The Issue June 2026 Issue 54

Issue 54 is Sista Bosso Magazine's first Photographers Issue, built around a promise made earlier in the year, that we would run a photography competition and give the winner a magazine cover.

Through Her Lens, our inaugural competition, delivered on that promise. Grace Kgaogelo Lekalakala of ChenPhotography is this issue's winner and cover story.

The issue opens the photography conversation with a look at photography as more than a hobby or a profession, a practice that sits between the two for a lot of women trying to figure out where their work belongs.

It traces the history of photography, from cave walls to camera rolls, looking at how humans have documented themselves across time and what has actually changed along the way.

It breaks down technique, unpacking Henri Cartier-Bresson's decisive moment and the three principles behind a striking photograph, light, line, and timing.

It looks at context, examining how African photographers are reclaiming the frame and rewriting the continent's visual story on their own terms.

It looks at psychology, examining why certain images stop us mid-scroll while thousands of others get skipped, and what happens when a real photograph is used to tell a false story.

The issue carries two Mqwebo Accessories and Decor photoshoots, both shot by Obakeng Photography, with styling by Kabelo Mablomo.

Delicate Moments Photography shot two Sista Bosso Magazine editorials, with Keamogetswe Ratlhagane and Kayleigh Jeffrey as models.

Signature Prince Photography shot the Madame Mosadi feature, with jewellery by Mqwebo and styling by Kabelo Mablomo.

The issue carries an event feature on The Word The Look, the poetry session returning to Mahikeng on 26 July 2026.

The issue closes with the Sista Bosso Colouring Book, for readers who want to sit with the issue a little longer.

This is an issue built around one idea, that the camera is not neutral. Every photograph is a decision, and this issue spends its pages looking closely at what goes into making that decision well.
