AP Human Geography Unit 1 Activities Bundle: Thinking Geographically
Give students several ways to practice thinking geographically: match vocabulary, investigate the school, compare geographic data, explain diffusion, solve a crossword, or start class with a short question that asks them to defend an answer.
This collection brings together six Unit 1 resources and five classroom extras in a consistent, printable format. Choose the activities that fit your instruction. Teacher directions, answer keys, response guides and scoring rubrics are included where appropriate.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
11 resource PDFs plus a two-page start-here guide, organized in one ZIP download. There are 74 pages total, including 42 student pages. The total includes teacher directions, keys and rubrics; it does not mean 74 student worksheets. Some planning templates are designed to be copied more than once.
SIX UNIT 1 RESOURCES
• Vocabulary Matching: 42 selected terms across five student worksheets, with a complete key.
• School GeoQuest: investigate the five themes of geography using 10 evidence tasks at school, then explain the findings in a presentation. Field notes and a 100-point rubric are included.
• Rank the Continents: make predictions, compare a stated population snapshot and area order, and explain why geographic definitions matter. Includes student pages and a key.
• Baseball Diffusion: a nine-question research activity about how a cultural practice spreads, with case notes, source links and a teacher response guide.
• Unit 1 Crossword: a 27-term puzzle with a separate clue sheet, solved grid and answer list.
• Unit 1 Bell Ringers: 24 prompts about maps, location, regions and geographic evidence, with example answers. Three prompts appear on each student page.
FIVE CLASSROOM EXTRAS
• Three Geography Warmup Crosswords: 12 entries per puzzle, with keys.
• Latitude and Longitude Practice: geographic-grid concepts, city lookups and application questions, with a complete key.
• Geography Icebreaker Bingo: a 5-by-5 conversation card and teacher directions.
• Current Events Geography Scavenger Hunt: 24 topics, a 10-story scan log, a reusable three-story analysis task and a scoring guide.
• NFL Realignment Project: a fictional planning challenge about divisions, travel and place, with planning templates and a rubric.
HOW YOU COULD USE IT
Use matching or crossword pages after vocabulary instruction, assign a bell ringer to open class, or select a research activity or project for a longer application task. These are choices within an activities collection, not a prescribed sequence of complete lessons.
Time varies by activity. Bell ringers are planned for roughly 3–5 minutes each. Research, school observations and projects take longer; the NFL project is estimated at 2–3 class periods plus presentations. These are planning estimates, not classroom-pilot results. Individual teacher guides explain suggested use and print ranges.
MATERIALS AND FORMAT
• Printable PDFs in a ZIP file; U.S. Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches.
• Open with a standard PDF reader. Start with Actual Size / 100% when printing; use Fit if your printer clips the edges.
• City lookups need an atlas or teacher-approved map. Research and current-events tasks need accessible sources. The NFL project also needs road-route estimates and host-city research.
• School observations can use labeled sketches or written notes when photos are not permitted.
• Some activities ask students to make a presentation or another project output; editable presentation templates are not supplied.
CHECK BEFORE BUYING
Earlier versions of the latitude/longitude worksheet, NFL realignment project, icebreaker bingo and current-events hunt are available in the Social Studies Hub free resource library. Related geography crossword practice is also offered there. The revised classroom extras are included for convenience; their basic activities are not exclusive to this paid collection.
If you previously purchased the Social Studies Hub Unit 1 activity collection or full Unit 1 bundle on TPT, many underlying activities overlap. This is a revised edition of that collection, not an entirely new set of activities.
This is an activities bundle for AP Human Geography. Slides, guided notes, a study guide and an exam are not included. Vocabulary is selected review, not an exhaustive Unit 1 list; some terms also support later units. The general geography extras provide background practice. This product is not a complete unit curriculum or a set of official AP exam questions.
