Eve Cardigan crochet pattern
⚠️ WARNING: This is not a traditional pattern. There is no gauge. There is no yarn weight requirement. Bring your scraps and your sense of adventure.
The Eve Cardigan has a boxy fit, and is meant to be worn open (hence no buttons). Designed to be worn on chilly mornings in spring and summer, the cardigan has three-quarter sleeves that are finished with a fitted cuff.
But everything else can be customised/ personalised. Make it cropped, or make it longer; just add more rows when working the bodice. Make it looser and slouchier if you prefer an oversized silhouette; just work 2 more rows in the yoke before you separate for sleeves. Don’t like the three-quarter sleeves? Make them regular length. The three-quarter sleeves are finished with a fitted cuff, but you can also leave out the last two rounds that decrease stitches, and have wide sleeves.
This pattern is adjustable sizing, so please read once first, and then depending on your yarn thickness and hook size, choose an odd row to begin with.
You can make the EVE cardi with freshly-shopped yarn, or you can make it with scrap yarn. I did both.
What you need:
This cardigan is designed to help you use up your yarn scraps. But if you are buying new yarn, go ahead and follow the manufacturer recommendations for your size, plus 20% just in case because crochet uses up more wool and this cardigan uses a textured stitch too.
If you are using scrap yarn, then aim to assemble about 400g for XS, and 700g for XL. Here's an estimate of the minimum amount of yarn you need for these sizes:
XS/ US 0-2/ EUR30-32: 450g
S/ US 4-6/ EUR34-36: 500g
M/ US 8-10/ EUR 38-40: 550g
L/ US 12-14/ EUR 42-44: 600g
XL/ US 16-18/ EUR 44-46: 650g
Who is the crochet pattern for:
This crochet pattern is suitable for ambitious advanced beginners and intermediate crocheters who have a little experience making garments. We start the cardigan by constructing the yoke, which is worked in rows with a raglan construction. The yoke is then separated for a bodice and sleeves: the bodice is then worked in rows, and the sleeves subsequently in rounds.
What this crochet pattern contains:
This pattern uses US American crochet terminology. The pdf is 26 pages because it is formatted to be legible on your mobile phones without zooming in and panning. It is also available in an ebook (.epub) format.
