Silk and linen threads, dyed with found plant dyes, stitched on Khadi paper. 34x68 cm.

This piece was inspired by the work and above all the philosophy of Fukumi Shimura, Japanese dyer and weaver, who speaks about dyeing with plants being an act of "receiving colour". Over several months, I used plant matter that presented itself to me to dye silk and linen thread without expectation, and stitched them on paper in the order I found them. Between the viewing angle and the glossy nature of the silk, the colours are ever-changing and can'tbe pinned down. The overall composition forms the Arabic word Qubul, "to receive kindly and graciously", which reflects the original Japanese concept and expresses my gratitude to the plants.
