Why did Solomon Request Wisdom?

Most of us are aware that Solomon possessed a depth of wisdom unknown at that time, and probably in ours as well. Solomon is likely the second wisest person to ever walk the face of the earth, next to Jesus. The book of Proverbs gives us a small example of his wise sayings. World rulers traveled great distances just to meet Solomon and experience his knowledge, wisdom, and wealth. Reports of Solomon’s wisdom and wealth circulate through many kingdoms in an age without television or social media.

We need to pause and consider how Solomon became so wise.  Why, when given the opportunity to ask for anything, did he ask God for wisdom?
