"Inspired by Richard Sander’s “Ring on Shoelace,” there has been a resurgence of Ring on Shoelace effects lately. At FISM, we saw the best version we have ever seen: “NoRisk” by Chris Torrente.

Here’s the effect: you borrow a ring, make it vanish, and then instantly show that it is tied to your shoelace. It’s done without silks, covers, or unnecessary moves; you vanish it in your hand, and then somehow it’s already on your shoelace. Part of its deceptiveness is that it happens so quickly. Impossibly quick.

NoRisk is a new method that is simple, fast, and instantly resettable. This makes it perfect for strolling, close-up, or parlour performances. You can set it up in almost any pair of pants and be ready to go in just a few minutes. As the name suggests, there is no risk to the borrowed ring, because, unlike other versions, the ring is kept securely under the performer’s control the whole time. We’ve all heard the horror stories: The reel catches, a thread snaps, or worst of all, the ring hits the floor. “NoRisk’s” unique method makes the ring hitting the ground impossible.

You can use any shoelaces and the preparation in your pants takes about five minutes. It doesn’t need to be done by a tailor and doesn’t require sewing. Then you’re ready to repeat this effect as often as you like with no reset required.
