Digital Crochet Pattern - Umzug Dishcloth

Umzug is a textured washcloth made using worsted weight yarn, although the pattern can be adapted to use other yarn weights.

Umzug is the German word for move. I thought up the idea for this dishcloth during an international move from Germany to Canada. It seemed like the appropriate name for the pattern.

Tools and Materials:

• 4.50 mm 7 or 5.00 mm H-8 crochet hook – sample used 4.50 mm hook
• tapestry needle and scissors
• DK, worsted, or aran cotton or other yarn suitable for dishcloths (sample shown used 0.5 ball of Lily Sugar ‘n Cream in Faded Denim and is 23 x 23 cm 9 x 9” in size)
• testers used between 20 g and 50 g for dishcloths that ranged in size from 15 cm (6 in) to 23 cm (9 in), amount used was also dependent on weight of yarn (DK or worsted)

Gauge: 14 stitches and 12.5 rows = 10 cm

Yardage: 20 - 60 yards (18 - 55 m)
