I love the spice of a gingersnap. It’s a bright, sharp jolt to the senses, filled with energy and zest. They’re best in fall and winter, I think, when the quiet slowness of the outside world starts to turn me into a hibernating bear. Then the gingersnap’s bit of spice will give me a little kick, and off I go again.

This hat pattern is one of my spicier patterns to date, but I promise, it’s still a pretty mellow knit! It has an all-over texture that repeats every six rounds and is highly memorizable—still perfect for knitflixing or relaxing, but with an appearance that says otherwise. I’m hoping a new hat with a fun texture will help you enjoy the outside world, even as the weather cools down here in the Northern Hemisphere.

**SIZES**
S, M, L, XL
Finished hat dimensions: 16.5 (18.25, 20, 21.5) in / 42 (43 cm, 51 cm, 54.5 cm) circumference (Note: most people like their hats snug, so if that’s what you’re looking for, choose a finished hat size that is somewhat smaller than your actual head. This is a tall hat with a crown that decreases very fast, so it has a slouchier fit.)

**MATERIALS**
DK weight yarn, 140 (165, 190, 215) yds / 128 (151, 174, 197) m

Sample shown knit in Playful Day Yarns SW Merino DK, 246 yd / 115 g, 4 ply

**GAUGE**
4” (10 cm) square = 26 stitches x 30 rows in stockinette

**NEEDLES**
One set of needles for your preferred style of small-circumference knitting in a size to match gauge listed above, plus one set of needles two sizes smaller (for the brim).

Suggested needle sizes: US 5 (3.75 mm), US 7 (4.5 mm)
