Chinese New Year Art Lesson, Year of the Monkey Art Project
In this Chinese New Year art lesson, students create an art piece inspired by Chinese New Year and the Year of the Monkey. The lesson includes a visual and text step-by-step, with each step on its own page, plus a how to draw the monkey sheet.
A pre-drawn monkey for cutting out is included for primary students, for adaptations, or when you want to shorten the lesson, so every student can complete the piece successfully. All of the art lessons are original ideas by Ms Artastic.

HOW TO USE IT
Read through the lesson plan for the steps and materials, and gather the materials in advance. Look over the visual and text step-by-steps, and consider making a sample yourself so you are ready to help students. Photocopy the handouts students need, such as the step-by-steps or rubric.
Print the poster sample in color and show it before the lesson as your hook. Then show the PDF on a projector or under a document camera, or use it as your guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a visual and a text description, which keeps the lesson clear for you and your students.
FAQ
Can younger students do this lesson?
Yes. The pre-drawn monkey can be cut out instead of drawn, which helps primary students and shortens the lesson.
Can I project it for students to follow?
Yes. Project the step-by-step pages from the PDF, or use them as a guideline while you demonstrate the art project yourself.
Is there a rubric?
Yes. A rubric for marking is included.
