Rotonda Thessaloniki from above - Thessaloniki Greece
The Rotοnda is a 4th century domed circular building in Thessaloniki, similar to the Pantheon in Rome. Its original use is not known, but various assumptions have been made so far: that it was a temple of Zeus or of the Kaveri, that it was built by Caesar Galerius as his mausoleum or as a throne room in the palace complex. It was converted into a temple in the early Christian period, which some researchers identify with the temple of the Incorporeal Powers mentioned in Byzantine sources. In 1591 it was converted into a Muslim mosque by Sheikh Hortaci Suleiman Efendi (Hortaci Suleiman Efendi). After the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1912, it was dedicated to Saint George.
