WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING

★★★★★ “This project was perfect for my kindergartners. They learned a lot and it focused on exactly what I was looking for. Their projects turned out great. Thanks.” Janet A., TPT review

Ratings are from TPT reviews (5-star scale).

In this Primary Colors Art Lesson, Kindergarten students explore red, yellow and blue while creating cheerful Primary Color Birds. They draw, paint, recognize colors and try simple color mixing, and begin learning that artists mix primary colors to make orange, green and purple.

Along the way, students build early literacy, fine motor control, art vocabulary and creative confidence through tracing, reading, writing, reflection and extension pages. It works for classroom teachers, art teachers, homeschool families and sub plans, and as a cross-curricular art and literacy lesson.

HOW TO USE IT

Teach with the printable pages, the video walkthrough or the step-by-step PowerPoint slideshow, depending on how you like to teach. The slideshow guides students through the art process and introduces primary colors in a developmentally appropriate way.

Young students need repetition, strong visuals and playful ways to learn new art concepts. Here they read about primary colors, look at anchor charts, mix them, trace, draw, paint and talk about how artists use primary colors.
