4pm: Live Q&A by Nikisnikis

5pm: Meetups in the breakout rooms

Title of the session:

From Eve to Syble to Billy to Alice: A History of Plural Representation

About the session:

In this talk, we'll go through the history of plural representation by looking at popular movies, books, and court cases of plurality to examine how this representation has shaped public opinion about what it means to be plural. This journey helps us understand where we’ve been, how far we’ve come, and why representation matters so much today!

About the presenter:

Nikia Chaney (Nikisnikis) is a poet, writer, and educator whose work explores identity, community, and the intersections of Blackness, creativity, and mental health. As the author of several poetry collections and memoir about mental illness she brings a lyrical and deeply introspective voice to themes of belonging, memory, and transformation in her work.

A passionate advocate for literature and the arts, Nikia is the founder of Jamii Publishing, a press dedicated to amplifying the voices of Black women writers. She has served as Inlandia Literary Laureate and has facilitated numerous workshops, readings, and community programs aimed at fostering creative expression and social engagement.

Her current research and writing also engage with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), particularly within the experiences of Black women. Drawing from personal experience and interdisciplinary scholarship, she explores how identity, trauma, and cultural narratives shape the understanding of DID. Nikia continues to write, teach, and advocate, believing in the power of storytelling as a means of healing, resistance, and radical self-acceptance.

About the rest of the event:

After the session, we have reserved time for a live Q&A where you can ask your questions to Nikisnikis.

We have breakout rooms available for topics like Plurality, DID, OSDD, Allies, questioning folks, and more. So, we are looking forward to this form of community cultivation. Using your camera and microphone is optional, you can use the text chat or listen in if that's better for you and your System.
