Everything changes, and the year 2020 proved that to be true for Charlene E. Green on multiple devastating levels. Though life and death sank their merciless fangs into her foundation and thrashed it, they couldn’t decimate her love for language—specifically poetry, her counselor and truth serum since 2005.

But overwhelming loss unexpectedly gave way to a blown spiritual fuse that Charlene realized literary adoration couldn’t replace alone. She had to resuscitate her soul and restructure her identity before a fresh lyrical level of tales about the beauty, bewilderment, and bully of life could make its debut. 

Prayer, grief therapy, patience, and a deep trust that self-love and purpose would eventually prevail have allowed this body of work from Charlene 2.0 to stream clearly and confidently. Check My Documents is a nod to all of her previous books and a bold flex, a way of informing the masses that she’s not only still firmly grounded after the storm but is also a woman who refuses to be separated from what she does best for herself and the world: words.

 Check My Documents is a powerful, unapologetic, and emotionally gripping collection that never loses momentum. From beginning to end, it’s a true no-skip, page-turner.

Charlene writes with clarity, courage, and a fearless creative lens. Each poem feels intentional and precise, delivering impact without wasted words. I especially loved the inventive approaches in pieces like “Thumbs Down,” “The Rebirth,” and my personal favorite, “Weaponized.” I really like "Apostrophe" as well: "You may not abbreviate the parts of me you find inconvenient..." It is a healing to an invisible ailment in a space of the heart undetected by any EKG. Some of the raw emotions hit like a "Hurriquake" to your soul. I have compared the loss of a mother to being initiated into the fraternity of pain which is like an isolation in the spirit that is unknown without experiencing it first hand. I read your book last night, and wow, all the amazing energy that you show on the mic is on the page and it is lovely. I even teared up at one point (my partner died in 2020). I like that you do a dance with grief and loss and find ways to honor your mother. Powerful and beautiful. There's enough energy in these poems to power a race car.
