Microalgae of Rosella Ridge

A visual journey into the hidden world of microalgae from Rosella Ridge, a regenerative farm in the Byron Bay hinterland of Australia.

Across 36 pages, this digital collection reveals an extraordinary microscopic world of symmetry, colour and form.

The photographs are accompanied by field notes exploring what can be seen within each image, from chloroplasts and mineral crystals to cell division, photosynthesis, symbiosis and evidence of evolution. All microscopy images were captured using an iPhone or DSLR through bright-field, dark-field and polarised light microscopy.

Rosella Ridge was once an operating macadamia farm and is now being regenerated toward native Big Scrub rainforest. As life returns at every scale, this book records some of the smallest organisms responding to the recovery.

Designed as a picture book to pore over with a coffee in hand, Microalgae of Rosella Ridge is part field notebook, part microscopy collection and part celebration of the remarkable life that exists beyond ordinary sight on Bundjalung Country.
