A Waltz & Two Loves - Guitar piece arranged for piano solo
Uma Valsa e Dois Amores (A Waltz and Two Loves) is one of the most celebrated compositions by the legendary Brazilian guitarist and composer Dilermando Reis (1916–1977). It is a staple of the classical guitar repertoire, particularly within the genre of the Brazilian valsa.
Dilermando Reis was a master of the "Violão" (Brazilian guitar). He bridged the gap between popular music and classical technique. Uma Valsa e Dois Amores remains popular because it captures a specific era of Brazilian radio and salon music, where the guitar was the primary instrument for expressing romantic sentiment.
Arranged here for piano solo that keeps the harmonies and flavours of the style with carefully written out performance directions. A good measure of stylish rubato is required to make this sound romantic and expressive. It is a great addition to build repertoire for intermediate level pupils as well as great enjoyment for the more advanced pianists.
